Skepticism over attempt to ban Hells Angels

New South Wales Police are pushing ahead with their plan to crackdown on outlaw motorcycle gangs.

Under new anti-bikie laws, they're attempting to ban the Hells Angels motorcycle club.

If the club is banned by the Supreme Court its members can be stopped from associating together and working in certain jobs.

But there's skepticism among lawyers and former policemen that the laws are necessary.

Michael Edwards has this report.

MICHAEL EDWARDS: The Hells Angels isn't the biggest bikie gang in New South Wales, but many law enforcement experts consider it one of the toughest and best organised.

CLIVE SMALL: They've got some very tough people in the Hells Angels as have the other gangs. But I can understand why the police are going for the Hell's Angels first.
