Fallen Angel

Terrence Tognolini isolated himself from his bikie brethren and allowed police to crack the code of silence. Andrew Rule reports.

When the Angels decided to get rid of Terrence Tognolini, he didn't see it coming. The fat man was cunning, but even the most cunning can have a blind spot, and Tognolini's was vanity. Not about his looks - unpleasant even by bikie standards - but about his place in the outlaw motorcycle gang that had been his life.
Without the club ''patch'' and the implied backing of the brothers, he was a small-time drug dealer in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, a thief and a criminal schemer with a pot belly and a sadistic streak.
